The next storm could bring additional flooding, heavy snow, and dangerous conditions. Please don't wait until it's too late to get out safely.
Our priority remains making sure we have reached everyone who needs help evacuating from flood-affected areas. At the same time, we are preparing for the incoming storm.
Unfortunately, the forecast continues to change, and the expected conditions keep getting worse. We are now looking at:
• Up to 3 inches of rain across most of the County.
• Between 12 and 30 inches of snow in the high country, depending on elevation.
• The San Juan River in Pagosa Springs is expected to crest at 10.58 feet. (Minor flood stage is 10.5 ft.)
If you have water on your property now, expect more with this storm. Even if you are not in an evacuation area, we urge you to consider evacuating to a safe area for at least the duration of the storm if you have medical needs or do not have the resources to safely shelter in place.
Conditions following the storm may delay our ability to reach you. Please don't assume help will be immediately available if you become stranded or need assistance.
We strongly encourage residents living in low-lying areas to evacuate now, while resources are available to help you. Please don't wait until conditions deteriorate.
If you need assistance evacuating, call the non-emergency dispatch line at 970-731-2160.
Keep in mind that air resources may be grounded during the storm, which could limit our ability to reach people who need assistance.
If you evacuate, consider bringing important documents and paperwork with you, including insurance information. Also bring medications, essential supplies, and anything you may need if you are away from home for several days.
We know this is difficult, especially for those who have already been through so much. Please take this next storm seriously, stay informed, and make decisions now that will help keep you and your family safe.
Thank you, Archuleta County, for continuing to look out for one another.
