Dear Editor:
Last week, incredible flooding once again shut down much of our town. From lack of power and other building issues—including too much water!—most shops, restaurants, and offices downtown had to close. Schools also were closed, of course.
But the library stayed open!
“People need us,” library director Barb Brattin told me. “We opened. Patrons came in to get documents printed and pick up books on hold. Kids needed a place to go while their parents were at work. They spent time in the makerspace—off the computers and creating things, which thrills me. Once we go solar, I don’t expect we ever will close, unless they forbid travel.”
We are so lucky to have such a beautiful, updated library and a dedicated group of librarians who are there for us, rain or shine.
