Zikr Dance Ensemble announces “Runes,” its ambitious spring 2026 season that will showcase the company’s roots while exploring the power and transformative energies of some of history’s most iconic symbols and the light code language of the future through two of Artistic Director David Taylor’s most powerful works, “Runes” and “Light Codes.”

In addition, Zikr will reprise internationally acclaimed Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s stunning “In Memoriam” pas de deux, along with Tomm Ruud’s iconic miniature masterpiece, “Mobile.”

The program will close with “In Your Eyes,” Zikr’s signature work and audience favorite.

Zikr will present the full-length “Runes” program in eight cities across Colorado and New Mexico. The company will be also paying special tribute to Loren Wilder, the well-known Colorado lighting designer and producer who originally commissioned “In Your Eyes” and David Andrews, longtime Colorado dance supporter, photographer and videographer.

Featured artists include:

• Taylor, a pillar of Colorado’s dance community for decades, will present new choreography as part of a restaged “Light Codes,” showcasing Taylor’s signature blend of technical precision and multimedia technology while honoring Zikr’s spiritual roots.

• Cherkaoui, celebrated for his multicultural approach and deeply narrative style, brings a dynamic and deeply humanistic approach to the stage. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in the Zikr’s growing significance in the contemporary dance space.

• Ruud (1943-1994), former principal dancer and resident choreographer for San Francisco Ballet, is perhaps best known for his role as Drosselmeyer in “The Nutcracker.” His masterpiece, “Mobile,” has been set on dozens of the nation’s major ballet companies and inspired the short film “Balances.”

The show will be performed on April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts.
