Dear Editor:
The voting season is here. I encourage all legal registered citizens to vote. I emphasize legal!
Let me describe our New Mexico/Colorado registration/voting experience.
My wife and I were registered residents of Archuleta County 22 years. We sold our home in 2018 and returned to New Mexico. Soon thereafter, we registered to vote in New Mexico. We had voted continuously in all Colorado elections for 20+ years and discontinued after our move. Likewise, we have subsequently voted in all New Mexico elections since 2018 by absentee ballot.
Unlike Colorado, to vote absentee in New Mexico, one needs to request a ballot from the county clerk’s office. Unlike most states, Colorado arbitrarily mails a ballot to all registered voters, whether they wished to vote or not?
In the mail we recently received 2 Colorado ballots for the upcoming November 2026 election from Kristy Archuleta. This ritual has a repeated history. We have received Colorado ballots for the last 8 years.
In the past, I have written both Colorado Senators, the representative for Archuleta district and Archuleta County Clerk. We’ve received no reply nor any action to purge our registration.
The National Voter Registration Act 1993: “a state may remove a voter from the rolls”
1. At the voter’s request
2. Felony conviction per state law
3. Adjudication of mental incapacity per state law
4. Death
5. The voter moved to an address outside the jurisdiction
My wife and I qualify, 1 and 5.
