Week of Nov. 2-7
A message to the Pagosa Springs Community
The CDOT and WW Clyde team have been in the Pagosa Springs community for almost two years now. Many of our team members relocated to the area to be part of this important project. We’ve gotten to know you, we frequent the restaurants and businesses here, and want you to know that we’ll be standing with you as the town and impacted areas around Pagosa Springs rebuild from this flooding incident.
After waters receded, work zone inspections were completed. The project team has reported that U.S. 160 and new concrete throughout downtown did not sustain significant damage. The excavated open areas on several of the open work zones will need to dry out before work continues at these locations. If you have specific project related concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to the project team.
Additionally, CDOT remains committed to providing you information and updates on all the highways impacted in the surrounding areas. For affected highway locations and routes outside of the project work zone, you’re encouraged to continue visiting COTrip or contact CDOT’s customer service by phone at (970) 385-1423. Updates are also posted to the CDOT News | Southwest Colorado Facebook group.
Work activity
Due to the increased water, milling and paving operations will be pushed back a week or two. The forecast continues to call for inclement weather later this week; all project work is weather dependent. Crews will work weekends (including Sundays) as needed especially when work cannot be completed during the weekdays due to inclement weather.
• 1st Street: 1st Street is now open to two-way traffic. The north side of 1st Street remains closed.
• 5th Street intersection: 5th Street is closed for the Town of Pagosa Springs to continue geothermal utility work and intersection paving for the coming week(s). Alternative delivery access for businesses on 5th Street will be through the liquor store parking lot. Crews will be continuing utility work at this location as well as planned asphalt paving operations as a part of the Town of Pagosa Springs work.
• 6th Street intersection: This intersection is closed until U.S. 160 lanes are paved west of McCabe Creek.
• 7th Street intersection: Crews are prepping the south side of the 7th Street intersection for paving operations this week if weather permits. Please note that pedestrians and vehicles should utilize 5th Street and Lewis Street, and 8th Street as alternatives to cross U.S. 160.
• 8th-10th streets : The milling and paving schedule for the south side of 8th-10th streets has been moved back to the week of Nov. 9. 8th Street will remain open until the south side of 7th Street is reopened, at which point 8th Street will be closed.
• Harman Park and Piedra Road: Work continues at this intersection, with work hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Crews are continuing to form and pour sidewalks, with planned island demolition and replacement in the coming week(s). We ask that drivers slow down and please allow extra time to get through the work zone.
• Pedestrian safety: Pedestrian crosswalks are open at 2nd, 3rd, Hot Springs, mid-block at 4th, Lewis, 6th and 8th. Our team continues to see pedestrians jaywalking and crossing at unsafe locations. Our work zone is active in several locations and we want to keep everyone safe. Please observe marked crossing locations.
