Former Pagosa Springs resident Gladys Leona Thayer passed away in Del Norte, Colo., on May 2, 2025, leaving us with heavy hearts. She was born Feb. 27, 1929, in a tar-paper shack in northeastern Colorado, the first child of Bill and Letha Adams. In 1934, the family migrated to a ranch in the Blanco Basin near Pagosa Springs, Colo. Leona later married rancher Carl Delbert Thayer and to this union two children were born, Patricia (Jim) Prentice and CD (Marlene) Thayer.

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Loyola “Lollie” Rebecca Garcia Palmer, age 78, in Durango, Colo., surrounded by her family. She was born on Jan. 24, 1947, in Lumberton, N.M., to Maria Cleofas and Preciliano Garcia.

Lois Jene Zuege (née Van Horn), age 94, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2025, in Pagosa Springs, Colo. Born on April 27, 1930, in Wray, Colo., Lois lived most of her long and meaningful life in Haigler, Neb., with her husband, Stan. Her life was rooted in family, hard work and the enduring spirit of her country lifestyle.

F. Bruce Trenk, born on April 11, 1936, in Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was the cherished son of Julia and Fredrick Trenk and was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nettie Evans Trenk, who passed away on Dec. 25, 2023.
