Colorado Christian University choir to return to Pagosa Springs for festival, concert Friday

The Archuleta School District Music Department is thrilled to welcome the University Choir from Colorado Christian University (CCU) to Pagosa Springs this Friday, Feb. 20.

The choir has a full schedule, starting the day with three mini concerts for all Pagosa Springs Elementary School students, running free choral workshops for middle and high school choir students in the afternoon, then capping it off with a free joint concert alongside our local students and community members at 7 p.m. in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our students,” stated Katrina Thomas, Pagosa Springs Middle School choral director. “We are so grateful for Dr. McNeil and the CCU Choir to go through the expense and travel the long journey from Lakewood to work with our students. Students often tell me even years later that it is a highlight of their time in choir.”

The University Choir at CCU, led by Dr. David McNeil, is the flagship choral ensemble within the School of Music. It is a select group of vocalists dedicated to performing masterworks across all musical styles and historical periods, ranging from classical and sacred to contemporary choral literature.

McNeil joined the CCU faculty of the School of Music as director of choral studies in 2018. Other current professional engagements include serving as the artistic director of the Vittoria Ensemble, a Denver-based chamber choir specializing in early music; and as choir director/worship leader at Rockland Community Church in Golden, Colo.

McNeil regularly leads performances by CCU ensembles across the Front Range in Colorado, and the United States, and is an active choral clinician and guest conductor. McNeil earned a bachelor’s degree in music education K-12 from Trinity International University, a master’s in choral conducting from Indiana University and a doctorate in choral conducting from Yale University.

Please join us at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20, in the high school auditorium to enjoy a powerful concert.

The concert is free to the community and will feature repertoire performed by the CCU University Choir in addition to three selections to be performed alongside local middle school and high school students plus a few Pagosa Springs Community Choir members.
