A strange experience

Dear Editor:

I’m hands down shaking while typing this. I don’t care if people think I’m crazy or on something. I know what I saw.Last night around 10:30 PM, I pulled over on a turnout off Highway 160, right before the Wolf Creek overlook. My truck’s alternator has been acting up and my headlights started flickering out, so I wanted to check the battery before I got stuck in the pass.It was freezing, pitch black, and completely dead silent. I was under the hood with my flashlight when I heard this heavy, metallic clack. Like two massive river rocks smashing together. Then the ground literally vibrated. I thought it was a mini earthquake at first because the tools in my truck bed started rattling.I turned my flashlight toward the woodline.About thirty yards out, standing right in a gap between the ponderosas, was this thing. At first I thought it was an old dead tree trunk, but it was too straight. And it was huge. Easily 10 feet tall. I shined the light directly on it and my stomach just dropped. It wasn’t a bear. It wasn’t a person. It didn’t even have hair. Its body looked like it was made out of chunks of jagged, black volcanic rock—like that dark basalt rock you see around the valleys—but all woven together with thick, gnarled pine roots. It was incredibly skinny, with arms that went past its knees. It didn’t have eyes or a nose. Just a smooth, hollowed-out face that looked like an old ash cave. When the flashlight hit its face, it didn’t run. It just slowly turned its head. I could hear the wood and rock grinding inside its neck. Scrrrch-clack.Then it stepped forward. Its feet were like solid blocks of stone. When it hit the dirt, the vibration went straight through my boots and up my spine. My teeth actually ached from the frequency.I didn’t even close my hood. I jumped in the cab, slammed it into drive, and tore out of there. My headlights were cutting out the whole way down the pass. When I got home, I looked at my compass app on my phone and the needle was just spinning in circles. It’s still broken today.Has ANYONE else seen this? Is there some kind of weird mining equipment out there or am I losing my mind? I’m not driving that pass at night ever again.
