The Pagosa Springs High School Pirate golf team is in its final stretch of playing three tournaments in three days.
The stretch began on Tuesday, Sept. 8, when the team was in action at Dalton Ranch Golf Club for a tournament hosted by Durango.
Coach Mark Faber previously described the Dalton Ranch course as “a real test.”
The Pirates took third out of six teams at the event with a score of 246.
“They all played OK,” Faber explained of the Pirates.
Chatwin Pickering led the Pirates on the day, tying for sixth place out of 30 golfers with a score of 78 on the par-72 course.
“Chatwin played really well,” Faber said, adding Pickering had a great round and likely got as much out of the day as he could.
Pickering’s effort included going birdie on one hole and par on 11 holes.
Tyler Dimond and Logan Lamoreaux tied for 12th, with each logging an 84.
Dimond shot par on seven holes during the tournament, while Lamoreaux shot par on eight holes and birdie on one.
“Logan played really well,” Faber said, noting things got away from him at a bit at the end.
He added that Dimond played OK, but not great.
Maximus Ibram shot a 110 on the day.
Faber stated he thinks the course’s difficulty was a factor for Ibram, who had never seen the course before, but that the team handled the challenge well overall.
“I think they handled it pretty well,” he said. “I was encouraged with all of them.”
On Wednesday, the Pirates hosted their annual home tournament at Pagosa Springs Golf Club.
The results from the home tournament were not available by press time Wednesday and will be included in next week’s issue of The SUN.
Today, Thursday, Sept. 10, the Pirates are in action at the Butch Braswell Memorial tournament.
In addition to being a new course for all of the Pirates, with Faber saying it should be a challenging and interesting day, the coach indicated mentally it will be a stretch for the Pirates as they complete three tournaments in three days.
Then, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, the team will face off at the Monte Vista Country Club beginning at 9 a.m.
Faber noted that, while the team may still be recovering from this week, hopefully they will be heading in the right direction for the Monte Vista tournament.
