Archuleta County Clerk and Recorder June Madrid has announced her intent to run for a seventh term in this November’s election.
Madrid was appointed to the position in 1989, then elected to office in 1990.
“I totally love my job and the people in this County,” Madrid said in a written statement. “I have seen and been involved in many changes over the years. My office has grown into three stand-alone actual departments over the years as the County has grown: Motor Vehicle, Recording and Elections.”
In an interview, Madrid said that, if elected for another term, she hopes to keep seeing each department grow and continue to work on changing the county’s microfiche records to a digitized form as funding allows.
Madrid’s statement notes the challenges faced by her other two departments:
“Motor Vehicle changes on an almost daily basis. It’s all statute regulated and it’s a challenge to stay on top of them.
“Elections have morphed into a whole other world. I cannot believe I have a full time employee and myself doing election ‘work’ all year long. It’s changing on a daily basis!”
“I can say with pride that those who work in our office are the best!” Madrid’s statement added.
