Posted

Sunday, November 1, 11:45 AM

The river is rising faster than originally anticipated and is now expected to crest higher than previously forecast, potentially as early as 6:00 PM TONIGHT.

MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDERS remain in effect for all low-lying areas along the San Juan, Rio Blanco, Navajo, and Piedra Rivers.

Even if you are not currently in a mandatory evacuation area, we strongly encourage anyone who does not feel safe where they are to move to higher ground NOW. Do not wait until conditions worsen.

PAGOSA SPRINGS WILL CLOSE TO ALL INCOMING TRAFFIC AT 2:00 PM TODAY.

Traffic will be allowed to LEAVE the area, but all incoming traffic will be stopped. Re-entry will NOT be permitted.

Traffic control points will be established at the following locations:

Highway 160:

  • Highway 84
  • 14th Street
  • County Road 119
  • County Road 500 at the radio station
  • Hurt Lane/Stollsteimer Road
  • Oakridge Drive

Additional traffic control points:

  • Cemetery Road (County Road 411) and Crestview Drive
  • County Road 500 and Burns Canyon

PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.

If you are in an evacuation area, leave now. Do not wait for the river to crest. Conditions are changing rapidly, and emergency responders may not be able to reach you when the storm is at its worst.

You may leave the area, but you will not be allowed to return until authorities determine it is safe.

Your safety is our priority. Please act now. Share this information to help reach others who may be affected.
