God created humanity in His own image — male and female. The glory of God is a human fully alive, meaning living as the best version of oneself. This best self is someone who does what they love, using their talents to the fullest, all for God’s glory.
Scripture teaches that talents — both natural and spiritual — come from God.
Talents are meant to be developed, not hidden (Parable of the Talents, Matthew 25:14-30), and should be used in service to God and people (1 Corinthians 12:4, 7). David, a skilled harpist, warrior and king, used his gifts to serve God and others (1 Samuel 16:18). Joseph, once a slave, rose to power by wisely using his God-given abilities to save Egypt during famine.
God honors skill and diligent work. Proverbs 22:29 praises those skilled in their work, and Proverbs 31 celebrates a virtuous woman using her talents in business and charity. Samson, set apart by God from birth, performed incredible feats showing God’s power even when his motives were flawed (Judges 13-16).
Modern examples like golfer Scottie Scheffler demonstrate using God-given talents with humility and faith. Scheffler prioritizes God and family above sport, showing how faith shapes talent. Similarly, athletes like Usain Bolt, 100-meter record holder for years; Candace Parker, WNBA legend; and Fernando Mendoza, quarterback for the national champion Indiana Hoosiers, give glory to God for their gifts and successes.
Talents are visible like a beautiful sunset. Whether used for God’s glory or personal pride, they reflect His handiwork. Achievements in music, art and science, like Beethoven’s symphonies, Einstein’s theories, Adele’s voice and Michelangelo’s paintings reveal God’s work through human creativity and intellect (Acts 17:28).
Doing what we love is a gift from God. He plants desires in our hearts and gives us the capacity to fulfill them. Pursuing these gifts with joy and discipline is part of God’s grace. Not everyone is called to the same roles, but each person has unique gifts to bless the world. We all are alive on this earth at this time and place for a reason.
To find your gift, look within for the desires God has placed in your heart; develop them and share them for your joy and His glory.
