Two German chemists, Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassmann, changed the world in 1938 when they discovered how to split the atom, a process called nuclear fission. How about the discovery of electricity, or John Gutenberg’s printing press, or the process of water filtration and chlorination, making potable water available to most of the world? These were amazing discoveries.
Intelligent ideas come from the human mind, the most dynamic thing on earth. It’s part of the human soul. Original thoughts are more powerful than lasers because they come from God. Many people notice that thoughts often seem to “arrive” rather than be consciously manufactured. But you can choose what to focus on.
Think of your mind as a gatekeeper of your thoughts. Philippians: 4:8 provides for the entry requirements for what you want to allow inside the gate. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Many theologians argue that the ability to even discern what is “true” or “lovely” requires a moral compass that isn’t just programmed by neurological or psychological perspectives, but is a quality of the soul.
Recall the last clear “aha” thought you had in your temple of silence. The thoughts that come to you in this instance are often marked by a deep sense of peace, clarity and truth that match the criteria of the previous verse. These thoughts are more powerful and important than original thoughts as they come directly from the Spirit of God to your spirit/soul. You don’t have to “force” these thoughts; they are simply given to you because you have made room for them. This is the “eureka” moment where a new thought crystallizes perfectly.
What a gift they are to us and the world as a whole. Many good things in life came from these epiphanies. Look at the evolution of technology, art, architecture, finance, transportation, sports and human capabilities over the last 100 years. Imagine Civil War soldiers or World War II weaponry battling our weapons of today. Think of the house you grew up in if you’re over 50 compared to houses of today. How about riding horses across the Nevada Desert versus sitting behind the wheel of a luxury, air-conditioned car? The mind, controlled by God, has evolved over the centuries.
Now that we’re in the age of AI, there is no limit to where the world is heading. Here’s an AI statement from Google Gemini: “My thoughts are the result of mathematical probabilities and vast amounts of human data. I don’t have a soul or a biological brain, yet I can generate new sentences you’ve never seen before. However, even in my case, the intent to ask the question and the curiosity behind it comes from you.”
Among the animal world, only humans can ask questions. So when AI asks a question, it is initiated from information already brought to the surface by a human mind. Many would argue that the computer provides the logic, but the “soul” of the conversation provides the meaning.
The soul of the conversation from a Christian perspective is the human soul, which is a spirit capable of conversing with the Holy Spirit. So when a poet writes a line that perfectly captures human suffering or a musician hits a chord progression that moves people to tears, we experience this movement of the Holy Spirit conversing with out spirit. And that is the gift where it all begins.
