Creation Care to discuss native plants

Posted

The plants we choose determine the natural habitats we help create.

Choosing well is a challenge, especially here in our mountain community, with its high elevation and sometimes dry climate.

But, healthy native plants correlate directly to healthy populations of our native birds and bees. Whether you live on a large ranch or a lot in town, we can all make a difference.

If you are a total novice or a Master Gardener with years of experience, please join us for our Creation Care meeting at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis Street Thursday, March 27.

This meeting will focus on determining the best native plants for our zone 3 and 4 environments, and consider drought tolerance, deer resistance, size and soil requirements. We’ll pay special attention to which are most friendly to specific birds (hummers), bees and other insects. We’ll have as much information as possible on sourcing these native plants.

We will also be discussing our local Habitat Hero Native Plant garden certification, which partners with Audubon.

Our gathering will start at 5:30 p.m. with a spring potluck meal together. Bring something to share if you’re able; please join us whether or not you do.
