Late Monday, Archuleta County officials received the results of an air quality test performed in the Archuleta County Courthouse in early May, following the flooding of part of the western portion of the courthouse that occurred in late April.
The test was commissioned by Colorado Judicial Courts and Probation, which has expressed its concerns over a number of issues involving the courthouse, including air quality and space, since 2013.
The results of the test, performed by A. G. Wassenaar Inc. (AGW), indicated increased fungal spore levels in the overflow courtroom located in the western portion of the building.
“AGW identified elevated fungal spore levels in the overflow court room. This area of the building is not currently occupied and appears to be directly impacted by the roof leaks. It is AGW’s opinion that this court room and the county offices in the west building remain unused and closed to the public. It may improve the conditions in the Clerk’s offices if the doorways into the overflow court room and the office hallway are sealed with plastic sheeting,” the report states in its section on conclusions and recommendations.
