Based on early projections, Archuleta County is on pace to end 2015 with revenues in the general fund exceeding budgeted amounts by at least $550,000.
The news came as part of a quarterly report given by Archuleta County Finance Director Larry Walton at Tuesday afternoon’s meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.
“That’s very good news,” Walton stated simply after telling the commissioners.
Contributing to that projected excess are sales tax receipts and payment in lieu of taxes (PILT), which were both above budgeted amounts through the first half of the year.
According to Walton’s report, sales tax revenue is consistently coming in higher than budgeted and will probably end the year at least $400,000 over budget.
Part of that, as The SUN has reported, is due to previous years’ revenue making its way to county (and town) coffers this year, though collections related to the current year were 11 percent higher than 2014 through the first six months of the year.
