The county is due to end the fiscal year with $500,000 of unanticipated sales tax revenue, according to a quarterly finance report presented by Archuleta County Finance Director Larry Walton.

The report was presented in the form of a PowerPoint to the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) in a regular meeting on Nov. 4, with the report also included in the meeting’s agenda documentation.

The PowerPoint begins by listing a few positive developments for the county’s finances.

“Sales tax revenue (January through August) was about 19 percent higher than in 2014 and well ahead of budget. However, the amounts received included very significant adjustments to collections by the state that relate to prior years,” reads the report. “The part of the revenue that relates only to 2015 collections was up by about 12.6 percent.”

With this increase, it is estimated the county will end the fiscal year with at least $500,000 of unanticipated sales tax revenue.

Like the budgeted sales tax revenue, the unanticipated revenue will be divided evenly between the general fund and the road and bridge fund.
