Aspen House/Aspen Services receives grants to expand, strengthen services for community members with developmental disabilities

Aspen Services is honored to announce the receipt of several generous grants that will enhance and expand its ability to serve children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) in Archuleta County.

These grants will provide critical support for training, respite care, direct services and operational sustainability during a time of significant funding challenges.

The EasterSeals Foundation/Respite Coalition has awarded $10,000 to Aspen Services to support respite care provider training and respite services for families caring for loved ones with developmental disabilities. This funding will help ensure that local families have access to qualified, compassionate providers who can give caregivers the essential rest and relief they need.

The Denver Foundation’s Care Fund awarded $15,000 to strengthen Aspen Services’ programs that assist families with the application and evaluation process required to access Medicaid waiver benefits — a vital step toward long-term supportive care and housing options for their loved ones.

In addition, the TBK Triumph Fund granted $5,000 to expand Aspen Services’ capacity by supporting the employment of additional direct service providers, allowing the organization to meet the growing needs of clients and their families.

“These grants come at a truly pivotal time for Aspen Services,” said Pattie Copenhaver, executive director. “Funding for organizations like ours has declined dramatically over the past year, even as the demand for our services continues to grow. These awards are a lifeline — helping us continue to train staff, support families and prepare for the future of Aspen House.”

Aspen Services’ primary mission is to guide families through the often-complex process of accessing Medicaid waiver benefits and establishing a framework of lifetime support for adults with I/DD.

This foundation of care ensures that as parents age or face health challenges, their loved ones will continue to receive the services and stability they need. With this framework in place, Aspen Services can provide individualized programs that empower clients to live meaningful, independent lives.

When Aspen House is built, residents will have access to full wrap-around supportive services and a safe, enriching home environment right here in Pagosa Springs.

“These grants represent more than funding — they represent hope,” added Copenhaver. “They bring us one step closer to realizing the vision of a community where adults with developmental disabilities can live, learn and thrive.”
