The Archuleta County Public Health Department (ACPHD) is proud to announce its participation in National Public Health Week (NPHW) April 7-13, aligning with the national theme, “It Starts Here.”
This theme underscores the critical role local public health departments play in fostering healthy communities, a mission ACPHD has been dedicated to since its inception just over a year ago.
“Creating a healthier community starts with each of us,” said ACPHD Executive Director Ashley Wilson. “ACPHD is committed to partnering with local agencies, businesses and nonprofits to support the overall health of our community, knowing that prevention efforts are key to long-term improved health and well-being.”
NPHW 2025 will highlight the importance of addressing health equity, promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening public health infrastructure.
The ACPHD, now in its second year of service, has been actively working on these fronts through various programs and initiatives, including: participation in and organization of the Archuleta County Health Fair, clinic days, low-cost labs, and help with health insurance during open enrollment. The ACPHD also aims to keep the public informed on topics such as evacuations, wildfire awareness and overall disaster preparedness.
“Preparedness starts at the individual household level,” explained Community Outreach Specialist Lacy Capre. “While emergency responders are dedicated to protecting our communities, the first line of defense is personal responsibility. By taking steps to prepare our homes and families, we not only safeguard our own well-being, but also support first responders by reducing preventable risks. Preparedness isn’t just about reacting to crises — it’s about resilience, readiness and respect for those who serve.”
Further celebrating NPHW, the ACPHD will host an open house at 502 S. 8th St. on April 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will be open to the public and showcase clinic offerings, educational opportunities, and goals for both current and new departments in 2025 and 2026.
Representatives from the ACPHD’s Women, Infant, Children (WIC), SafeCare and Health Insurance Navigation services, as well as clinic specialists, will be available to answer questions and provide answers to the community in a more personal one-on-one setting. A Spanish-speaking representative will be available.
The ACPHD is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering clinic hours Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and one Saturday a month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
