National Historic Preservation Month: Preserving our past, shaping our future

Each May, communities across the country celebrate National Historic Preservation Month, a time to recognize and reflect on the places, stories and traditions that shape our shared history. 

On Tuesday, May 6, Gov. Jared Polis, the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) and the Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) launched a new pilot Colorado Property Tax Map to offer Coloradans a centralized, accessible and reliable source to estimate property taxes and view statewide taxing jurisdictions and boundaries. 

On May 6, the Pagosa Springs Town Council approved a liquor permit request for the businesses along the north side of the 400 block of U.S. 160 to host “sip-and-shop” events in that section of downtown during this year’s summer months.

During its April 15 work session, the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) discussed options as to how the grant portion of its business assistance funds will be managed and distributed. 

Officials gearing up for fire season

Fire officials across the region and state are preparing for the upcoming season, with the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) releasing its fire outlook and preparedness plan on April 24, and regional agencies meeting earlier this week.

On April 29, the Pagosa Springs Town Council and Pagosa Springs Planning Commission met jointly to discuss the possibility of allowing metropolitan, or metro, districts within town limits.

At the April 14 meeting of the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District (PAWSD) Board of Directors, the board discussed water flow requirements for firefighting and the district’s relationship with the Pagosa Fire Protection District (PFPD).

Mobile home rezone park request tabled by commissioners

During a meeting held on Tuesday, April 15, the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) voted unanimously to table a rezone request, along with a general variance request, for a property located at 5503 U.S. 84 owned by the Troxtells.
