On Tuesday, April 22, County Manager Jack Harper confirmed in an interview with The SUN that the county’s preferred candidate for the county attorney position, Martha Whitmore, had withdrawn from consideration.
Harper explained the position has been reposted with the same salary range as before of $131,881 to $185,693.
The Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved Whitmore as the preferred candidate during a regular BoCC meeting held on April 15.
Commissioner Veronica Medina explained in a later interview that the county was notified on Friday, April 18, that Whitmore would not be accepting the position due to “some personal things.”
Medina explained that “we need to fill that position,” while indicating the other candidate who was previously interviewed for the position, Cathleen Giovani, would not be able to start for at least a month and half.
She noted the county is still actively searching for candidates for the attorney position.
