Responding to community needs, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 111 Unit 26A), of La Plata Electric Association (LPEA), gathered 1,780 pounds of nonperishable food items and $175 in cash at the eighth annual Fill the Bucket Food Drive held Nov. 14.
LPEA as a co-op has committed doubling the amount raised to help stock Archuleta County’s food banks in advance of the holidays.
The IBEW volunteers collected food items from two locations this year: City Market and Hometown Food Markets, and were highly visible, given that LPEA’s bucket trucks flew the banners high.
“Everyone involved felt rewarded in volunteering, giving back and supporting our community,” said Jeremy Gurule, LPEA fleet mechanic, who organized the event.
