Week of July 7-12
There will be no active construction over the holiday weekend. Safe pedestrian paths must still be followed. Downtown visitors are encouraged to follow the purple signage and stay out of the construction zone while they enjoy all the Fourth of July activities.
Work activity
Wrapping up this week
• Crews will not be working July 3-6 in recognition of the Fourth of July holiday. Crews will return to the worksite the morning of Monday, July 7. The WW Clyde team will have a supervisor and traffic control specialist on call over the weekend should any needs come up around the work zone.
• The team is currently conducting site clean-up and removal of steel plates in anticipation of the holiday weekend.
Upcoming work activity
• The 2nd Street intersection will be closed beginning Monday, July 7, to prepare for water line work on Tuesday, July 8. Installation of new lines will happen on Tuesday and Wednesday. There are no planned water shutoffs for this work; however, there may be water pressure issues in the 200 block due to this work (per the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District).
• The next planned water shutdown in the 200 block will be when the team installs a new fire hydrant for the Town of Pagosa Springs, though this will be attempted to be completed overnight.
• Subgrade preparation begins on the 1st to 3rd blocks.
• Continued work on storm drain placement between the 1st and 3rd blocks.
• Wastewater work for the town will be conducted concurrently as the above two items.
• Geothermal work will begin from 2nd Street to 4th Street on the north side. There will be pedestrian impacts during this work; pedestrians will be routed around geothermal work occurring closer to Lewis Street. The crews will work to maintain ADA accessibility as much as possible. They will be replacing the old geothermal system with a new one.
• Conduit installation will begin at the 2nd Street intersection.
• The 2nd Street and 4th Street intersections on the north side of U.S. 160 will remain closed until utility and drainage work is complete.
Overflow parking available
• The overflow parking lots that the Town of Pagosa Springs has worked on are now open at 323 Hot Springs Boulevard and 811 San Juan Street. Other public parking is available throughout the downtown.
Watch where you walk
Pedestrian crosswalks will be open at 1st, 3rd and 4th streets. Mid-block crossings between 4th Street and 5th Street will be closed, but the crosswalk at 5th Street will remain open.
Safety tips for pedestrians
• Watch where you are going. Do not enter the work zone or climb over work zone safety barriers. Construction work may be fascinating, but always prioritize navigating the work zone as safely as you can.
• Pay attention to posted signs in the project area and follow all workers’ instructions. Cross streets only at open crosswalks or intersections; walk on sidewalks whenever they are available.
• Be alert for moving construction vehicles and other unexpected hazards, which often move suddenly and quickly. Stay off your phone when crossing the street or walking near the work zone.
• Look out for traffic before crossing the street make eye contact with drivers so you know they see you.
Safety tips for drivers
• Look out for pedestrians and bicyclists everywhere, at all times, and especially in areas near schools, parks, shopping areas and transit stops.
• Slow down as you approach the work zone. Give workers extra room and be prepared to stop.
• Stop before a crosswalk, not in it.
• Obey all traffic signals. All light signals are operational and must be obeyed.
• Put your cellphone down. Never drive distracted or impaired.
Please be alert when you are traveling through the new traffic configuration or visiting the downtown businesses, as heavy equipment will be frequently moving throughout the project limits.
Traffic impacts
• Motorists could expect up to 15-minute delays at various times through the work zone as equipment may need to be moved.
• Working hours are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and subject to change.
