U.S. 160 reconstruction information

Posted

• Work will begin on Monday, March 24, with the removal of permanent pavement markings and the installation of temporary striping to prepare the work zone for turning the eastbound lanes of U.S. 160 into two-way traffic. Traffic shifts should be expected during this operation.

• Beginning Monday, March 24, there will no longer be parking on U.S. 160. Vehicles that fail to adhere to this change will be towed at the owner’s expense. The Town of Pagosa Springs has secured additional parking in the area to offset the loss of parking on the highway (please see related map).

• Once the striping operation is completed, crews will begin placing permanent concrete barriers in the middle of U.S. 160 to delineate the live traffic lanes from the work zone. The speed limit through the work zone will remain at 25 mph.

• Mid-week, crews will be installing temporary pedestrian fencing. Please utilize identified pedestrian routes within the work zone to ensure safety.

• An asphalt milling machine will begin deconstructing the north side of U.S. 160 (in what used to be the westbound travel lanes) to make way for potholing operations.

• Survey work is ongoing through the project limits.

Traffic impacts

• Motorists could expect up to 15 minute delays at various times through the work zone as equipment may need to be moved. There will be two-way traffic flowing in the eastbound lanes of US 160 through the first season of operations.

• During inclement weather, project engineers will assess the roadway and work location to make determinations on work continuing depending on safety concerns for workers and commuters.

• Working hours are Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and subject to change.
