Traffic impacts are expected on Tuesday, Nov. 9, as crews move the historic R.G. Gomez Store building through town.
According to a public notice submitted to The SUN, the building is slated to be moved from its current location at 85 Harman Park Drive to the Archuleta County Fairgrounds/Western Heritage Event Center rodeo grounds at 344 U.S. 84.
Impacts are anticipated to occur from approximately 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to the notice.
“The large building (measuring 24 feet wide by 56 feet long by 18 feet tall), will require heavy duty moving equipment and be considered an oversize load when it travels through town to its new home,” the notice explains. “The move will also require close coordination and associated work with state/county/municipal agencies, multiple utility companies, local schools, and all area residents, visitors, and businesses.”
The notice also outlines that, due to the size of the building and complexity of the move, “there will be potential minor, but temporary disruptions in traffic patterns and associated travel delays.”
The notice indicates that there will be Colorado State Patrol escorts and Colorado Department of Transportation-certified pilot cars providing traffic control.
A map of the planned route indicates that the building will be moved via U.S. 160 from Harman Park to Pagosa Springs Elementary School, at which point it will be taken on South 10th Street, Piedra Street, 8th Street and Apache Street to Light Plant Road. From there it will be taken to U.S. 84 and to the site at the rodeo grounds/fairgrounds.
