Support for Romero, Stewart, Clementi

Dear Editor:

Congressional candidate Dwayne Romero is an Army veteran and father of soldiers. He lives the military value “Leave no one behind.”

Romero is challenging Jeff Hurd. Hurd has abandoned Coloradans to support DC Republicans and their wealthy patrons. If we send Romero to Congress, he will not leave the people of rural Colorado behind.

Hurd supported tax cuts for the wealthy funded by healthcare cuts for us. Don’t be fooled. Hurd voted for Medicare changes to hit after this election. Romero will work to secure Medicare and rural hospitals.

Hurd won’t change course. He voted five times against resolutions to end the Iran war, standing by while fuel prices climb on top of tariffs (which are taxes on consumers). Romero will push back on senseless policies that push up our cost of living.

Hurd had his chance. He fell in line on votes that sacrifice the well-being of his constituents. Romero will go to Congress focusing on SW Colorado priorities: healthcare, water, public lands, veterans, and constituent service. He will not leave us behind.

Katie Stewart has been watching out for SW Colorado in Denver. She’s not a strict party-line vote in the Statehouse. She focuses on the needs and rural culture of her district.

When the rules for affordable housing grants didn’t work for Archuleta County, Stewart authored a successful bill to fix the problem.

From her position on the Health & Human Services Committee, Stewart sponsored a bill to make prescriptions for durable medical equipment less burdensome. She fought big pharma to protect compounding pharmacies.

We benefit from legislators who don’t just go along to get along. Vote for Dwayne Romero and Katie Stewart to be strong voices for our priorities in DC and Denver.

Barb Clementi is an educator. She believes every student deserves access to a solid education.

Clementi taught in Pueblo for 30 years. She served two terms on the Pueblo District 60 Board of Education and led the Colorado Association of School Boards as president. She understands how school financing works in Colorado.

Clementi also values her fellow educators. She represented Colorado educators on the National Education Association Board of Directors.

In this challenging time for public education, we need a representative on the State Board of Education who has a broad understanding of education from the classroom to the boardroom. That’s Barb Clementi.

Election day is November 3. Please take time to vote.
