Support for 7B

Dear Editor:

Please take a minute and think about how important it is to keep our healthcare local at Pagosa Springs Medical Center. It’s important to us all. It means an ambulance comes when we call 911 with a health emergency or after an accident. Local care means we drive fewer hours on the road to get care, take less time away from work and spend more time at home with family and friends who support us.

For someone receiving cancer treatment, managing an ongoing illness, or recovering from surgery, traveling out of town for care is difficult. Each trip may require a family member to take time off or to find someone to care for children, and winter weather can often make this situation even harder.

I support Upper San Juan Health Service District Ballot Issue 7B because it’s for my family, for yours and for everyone in this community who counts on PSMC for care. A yes vote does not raise taxes. I’ll say that again, a yes vote doesn’t raise your taxes one cent, it just lets our hospital continue to use the all the money it collects to benefit us all. And this is no change, our voters approved this in 2006, again in 2016, and we need to approve it again.

The value of our hospital reaches far beyond its walls, it’s valuable to every person in our community.

Please join me in voting yes on Ballot Issue 7B to keep our healthcare local.

Sincerely,

Kate Alfred
