Dear Editor:
Supporting local healthcare can be as simple as voting yes on Upper San Juan Health Service District Ballot Issue 7B.
It does not raise taxes. It allows the District to continue keeping and using the revenue it collects to support Pagosa Springs Medical Center, as voters have allowed both in 2006 and 2016.
This vote is about the people who make up our community: our families, friends, and neighbors. We differ in income, age, ethnicity, race, personal beliefs, and physical abilities. But every one of us may need medical care.
That includes happy people, mean people, nice people, and cranky people. It includes people we agree with and people we don’t. Illness and injury do not make those distinctions, and access to local healthcare should not depend on them either.
PSMC is here for our community through ordinary appointments, ongoing treatment, and some of life’s hardest moments. Keeping healthcare close to home is something we can support together, even when we see other things differently.
Ballot Issue 7B offers a simple way to do that without increasing taxes. A yes vote continues an existing authorization that helps support care for the whole community.
Please join me in voting yes on 7B, for our families, our friends, our neighbors, and perhaps even the cranky person we might become when we’re having a bad day.
Sincerely,
Ashley Bridges
