Support for 7B

Dear Editor:

I have had the privilege of working at the local medical center for more than 13 years. During this time, I have watched our young, remote, and rural hospital grow, bringing much needed healthcare services here, where we live. This has been and is important for our own health as well as for our community’s economy.

I believe part of Pagosa Springs Medical Center’s sustainability has come from its ability to operate outside of TABOR spending restrictions. That flexibility has helped PSMC invest in services our community needs rather than requiring patients to travel hours for care; services that include the PSMC Center for Cancer and Blood disorders.

A yes vote on 7B keeps that ability in place. The ballot question specifically begins, “WITHOUT RAISING TAXES,” and asks voters to allow the Upper San Juan Health Service District, which is one and the same as PSMC, to continue retaining and spending its revenues without TABOR limits as it has since 2006.

Please vote YES on 7B.

Respectfully,

Jodi Scarpa
