St. Patrick’s to hold workshop for Alzheimer and dementia caregivers

Special to The PREVIEW

On Monday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m., Alzheimer’s Association Regional Director Elaine Stumpo will be on hand at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church to offer a general information class for those who are caring for family members or friends with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Her initial talk will be followed up with monthly meetings to offer support and training to caregivers.

“The need for a program such as this has become apparent in our own church community. We suspect there is also a strong need across the larger Pagosa community for training and support for those who are caring for family members and friends with various forms of dementia,” says Fr. Doug Neel, rector of St. Patrick’s. “Elaine is an expert and knows what caregivers face, both on an emotional level and as they deal with the challenges of loved ones whose cognitive abilities are diminishing.”

These classes are free and open to the public. Even if you are not currently faced with this issue, but have a desire to learn more about being a caregiver or how to be supportive to those who are faced with dementia, this is a class you will want to attend.

St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church is located at 225 N. Pagosa Blvd. For more information, call 731-5801.
