Special to The PREVIEW

The Book Nook at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church will be open to the public this Saturday, Jan. 31, from 9 a.m. to noon. Gently used books by a wide variety of authors will be on sale for ridiculously low prices.

Paperback books will be sold for a quarter each and hardbacks for $1.

St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, located at 225 South Pagosa Blvd., donates all proceeds to help supply the church’s prayer quilt ministry with materials and to purchase food for the food pantry. Your purchase of great reading material will directly help both of these programs.

St. Patrick’s prayer quilt ministry has been a part of the parish outreach for over 10 years, giving beautiful, handmade quilts to people who are suffering from either physical or emotional pain. The quilts are prayed over as they are being made, placed on the altar on Sunday mornings and blessed by the congregation, then taken to the parish hall, where individuals signify their personal prayers by tying a knot into strings that have been sewn into the quilt. These quilts have provided comfort and healing to thousands of people all over the world.

St. Patrick’s food pantry provides a box of free food supplies to those who are hungry in our community. The box is filled to the brim with good, nutritious food donated by parishioners, community members, City Market and Care and Share. St. Patrick’s food pantry is open on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., coordinating its donation day with other churches in town.

“Christ made it very clear in the gospels that anyone who claims to be his follower must be willing to share what they have with the poor and must be willing to care for his flock, both in body and spirit,” said Fr. Doug Neel, rector of St. Patrick’s. “The proceeds from the Book Nook help us do just that.”
