Applicants who do not hold a valid Colorado driver’s license, identification card or instruction permit will be required to show two documents to prove their current Colorado address and documentation of their Social Security number when applying for these cards at Colorado DMV driver’s license offices beginning July 1.

Individuals who do not hold a valid Colorado driver’s license, identification card or instruction permit are generally those who are new to the state, first-time applicants or individuals with cards that have been expired one year or more.

This change will not impact Coloradans who renew or convert their valid Colorado driver’s license, identification card or instruction permit. Individuals with a valid state of Colorado driver’s license, identification card or instruction permit do not need to provide proof of their Social Security number or proof of Colorado residency when renewing or converting their document at an office, online or by mail.
