Remodel on new county building underway

Construction is underway to remodel the building on Lewis Street that formerly housed the Archuleta County Education Center into Archuleta County’s new administration building.

Archuleta County Administrator Bentley Henderson said he hopes the remodeling work will be completed by mid-November, with the county’s administration and finance departments moved in by Dec. 1.

A notice to proceed for construction was issued Sept. 8. The contractor on the job, Custom Homes by Vernon Leslie, has until December to finish the job.

Once complete, the building will house the administration, legal, human resources and finance departments, as well as the Board of County Commissioners and BoCC’s meeting room.

The total cost of the project, Henderson said, is $191,144. Funding for half of the project cost is coming through a grant from the Energy Impact Assistance Fund. That grant is for up to $150,000 and comes with a 50-percent match.

The county’s half will come primarily from 1A facilities funding, with the balance coming from the commissioners’ budget, Henderson explained.
