Special to The PREVIEW
Photo courtesy Jeanette BeanDo you have a little time on your hands to help out a worthy cause? Can you commit six weeks of your time to Relay for Life? We still need commitments for the following:
Teams: There is still time to form a team and this year, does not cost $100 to sign up your team. Each member just pledges $10 and you are up and running. To get a T-shirt this year, teams must be registered by May 20.
Logistics: The cost of tables and chairs has been donated, but we need help with getting them to and from the site. Do you have a flatbed or a large truck and a couple of bodies willing to help out with this one?
Food: We need vendors to sell food on site and donate food to those working.
Entertainment: Mike Hayward, DJ Dude, who has supported us with his recorded music for years, has retired, and we are looking for a person to donate their time and talents to follow in his footsteps.
Auction: This is the event within the event. The silent auction is always a big draw for bargain hunters. The items donated do not have to be new. They could include upscale used clothing or purses, artist’s donations and garden pots that are no longer needed. Use your imagination.
Sponsors: Sponsorships start at $100 and go up from there. Thanks to all of our sponsors from past years. These funds help to underwrite costs of the event. A sponsor could be a business in the area or even an individual. Contact Stan Zuege at stan@gallesproperties.com or call him at 264-1260.
There will be a meeting in the conference room at The Springs Resort on Wednesday, May 7, from 6-8 p.m. for anyone interested in helping out or possibly chairing one of these events. Jessica Bliais, from the Colorado Springs American Cancer Society office, will attending to give support, assistance and suggestions for a successful Relay.
For further information, please contact the general chairman, Rod Proffitt, at planatlaw@yahoo.com or 903-9314.
Remember … celebrate … fight back.
