On the morning of June 19, cyclist Rob White is predicted to pass through Pagosa Springs as he races in the acclaimed Race Across America.
White is no stranger to a challenge — just last year, he competed in the Race Across the West, finishing the 878-mile race in just two and a half days — but the Race Across America is his toughest race yet.
White set off from Oceanside, Calif., on June 16 and will have ridden more than 910 miles and climbed more than 48,000 vertical feet when he reaches Durango.
The race course leads racers through the scorching desert, over two mountain ranges, the Rockies and the Appalachians, and across the great plains of the Midwest, before they reach the finish line in Annapolis, Md. To finish in 10 days, White will need to ride about 300 miles each day.
