Protecting our water: Mitigation efforts continue

Water is one of our most precious resources — one that, if a major wildfire came too close to a watershed, could be critically tainted, resulting in serious consequences for people living in surrounding areas. In order to protect Pagosa’s water from future contamination, the San Juan Headwaters Forest Health Partnership (SJHFHP), PAWSD (Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District) and several other community organizations are joining together in wildfire mitigation efforts.

SJHFHP, PAWSD, the Mountain Studies Institute, Southwest Conservation Corps and others have been working together for many months now, mitigating around Pagosa area watersheds, which are about 90 percent within PAWSD’s jurisdiction.
