The Pagosa Peak Genealogical Society will hold its regular monthly meeting this Saturday, Nov. 7.

We will meet from 10 a.m. to noon at the Community United Methodist Church, 434 Lewis St., in the fellowship hall.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a brief business meeting.

Did you know that Pagosa Springs was served by passenger rail from 1900 through 1935? The town’s original passenger depot still stands as a reminder of this important chapter in local history.

Residents are invited to join West Jackson, Pagosa Springs native and dedicated rail enthusiast, for a presentation exploring the history of Colorado’s railroads, with a focus on Southern Colorado. The program will cover the Denver & Rio Grande system, the San Juan Extension, the Rio Grande & Pagosa Springs Railroad, the Rio Grande, Pagosa & Northern Railroad, and the Pagosa Lumber Company.

Discover how these rail lines supported commerce, transportation and daily life in Pagosa Springs during the early 1900s. It’s sure to be an enjoyable trip through local history.

The genealogical society meets on the first Saturday of each month. It hosts guest speakers on a wide range of topics relating to genealogy and history, including the rich history of our area.
