Debra Jean Barrett

Debra Jean Barrett, also known as Debbie, peacefully passed away on June 7 at the age of 65 in Oklahoma City, Okla. She was born on Jan. 3, 1958, in Oklahoma City, and was the beloved wife of Dennis Barrett.

Debbie had a fulfilling career with the Forestry Service in Pagosa Springs. She dedicated her time installing and repairing signs along the many trails in the San Juan National Forest. Later, she transitioned to working as a dispatcher in the office, where she played a vital role in coordinating firefighters to protect the San Juan National Forest and surrounding areas. Debbie also had the joy of portraying Smokey Bear for local events and educating children in the Pagosa Springs school district.

In her personal life, Debbie found solace in her hobbies. She had a deep passion for gardening and took great pleasure in reaping the rewards of her labor, whether it be the delicious produce or the beauty of the wild and cultivated flowers she nurtured.

Debbie will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her son, Zackary Beeson, and her grandchildren, Danial and Annabella Beeson. She is also survived by her sister, Anna Kear Charping; her brother, Charles Kear (Nancy); and her sister, Janet Kear Jenkins (Ray). Additionally, she leaves behind six nieces and two nephews. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, Bonnie Powell; her father, Robert Kear; and her brothers, Douglas and Danial Kear.

A celebration of Debra Jean Kear Barrett’s life was held on Saturday, July 15, at Hilltop Baptist Church in Norman, Okla.

Debbie’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
