Congratulations to the Mainstream graduates of Nov. 18. After a lighthearted test of their dancing skills, all beginning dancers passed and became members of the High Country Squares.

Over the winter, they will have time to practice all of their knowledge while dancing with the entire club. Sometimes, it seems like a long haul to learn square dancing, but it is well worth it and club members enjoy watching the new crop of dancers mature in knowledge and skill each week.

The last time club members had the pleasure of dancing to Jim Park and his wife, Fae, was Dec. 2; they have left Pagosa Springs and the High Country Squares to winter in Arizona. Thank you, Jim and Fae, for all you’ve done for the club. In their absence the Squares are in capable hands, however, with caller Lloyd Husted from Farmington, N.M., filling in over the winter and spring season.

Holiday season is here in beautiful Pagosa Springs and The High Country Squares will be eating and dancing their way through Christmas at the annual Holiday Dance Party. Club members are encouraged to bring a “festive” treat to share, dress up a bit, and participate in a gift exchange. Members Seth, Grace and Joy Wiersma will present a musical program for us.

The High Country Squares formed in May of 2008, comprising couples and singles who love to dance. The club offers seasonal weekly lessons, regional dances and a wonderful sense of community for local and visiting dancers.

The fall schedule for club dancing is alternating Mainstream and Plus tips from 6:30-8:45 p.m. every Monday night at the PLPOA Clubhouse, located at 230 Port Ave.
