Special to The PREVIEW

The Mountain High Garden Club was founded in 2003 by Master Gardeners Barbara Bush and Frances Wholf.

Because gardening is such a challenge here in our mountain community, both Barbara and Frances saw a serious need to have a way to learn from others in our community about gardening.  The idea of formulating a garden club took hold and a steering committee was formed.  They put their ideas together, decided upon officers and began meeting.  There were 32 members that first year.

The Mountain High Garden Club will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Feb. 20. The location will be the Extension Office at the fairgrounds, the time 10 a.m.   We will celebrate with a brunch, cake and other surprises.  Special decorations, as well as door prizes, are planned.  The original 32 charter members will be honored.

All current and former members are welcome to attend.  We especially look forward to honoring our charter members. Our appreciation goes out to all of those who, over the years, have served on the board and have been officers, and everyone who has contributed to our service projects and programs. Our service over the last 10 years has consisted of the Senior Garden at the community center,  the library planting project, the small garden at the town bell tower, and the design and planting of the beds along Lewis Street.  We thank all of those who have served many hours maintaining these projects.

Those who have shared their input and their ideas have made this club so successful. Hope to see you at our celebration.
