School board discusses dress code, ACT results
The elementary school campus was buzzing with excitement and nerves as children made their way into new classrooms, and parents said their goodbyes Tuesday morning.
Based on the preliminary count as of Sept. 8, school enrollment is up to 1,408, which is significantly higher than what was projected.
The elementary school boasts a total of 547 students, the middle school has a total of 480 students and the high school’s enrollment is at 381.
According to Superintendent Linda Reed, the numbers may fluctuate incrementally as the academic year gets underway, but the district is glad to see the increase in enrollment.
ACT scores released
Following the first day of school, the Archuleta School District (ASD) Board of Education held its regular meeting on Sept. 8 in the middle school library.
David Hamilton, assistant superintendent of curriculum and assessment, presented the results of last year’s ACT exams to the school board and audience.
Beginning in the year 2002, Colorado required that 100 percent of students take the ACT, or college entrance exam, as opposed to previous years in which only college-bound students sat the exam.
Hamilton compiled the 13 years of test results since this requirement was enacted, and the scores seem to coincide positively with statewide results.
