Discussions of water levels in Pagosa Country lakes, streams and reservoirs by our officials begin with the same comment: “We cannot make predictions.”
According to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), there have been major declines in snowpack levels during the last month in the San Miguel, Animas, Dolores and San Juan basins. As of May 1, the Rio Grande basin reported a snowpack total of 41 percent of median and the other southwest Colorado basins, including the San Juan, were at 43 percent of median.
