Archuleta School District has announced that schools will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 4, but will reopen on Thursday, Nov. 5.
"This decision was made in collaboration with local emergency services and is based on several important factors: downtown conditions have been deemed safe, all school buildings are safe for students and staff, we have sufficient staffing to support students' return, and transportation services are ready to resume, with some route adjustments," the school's announcement states.
The district notes families should make the decision that is safest for them, with the district acknowledging conditions and individual circumstances vary across the district. Students who cannot safely return to school will have their absences excused.
Out of an abundance of caution, the district will be canceling the Oakridge Drive mailbox stop until repairs can be made to the bridge. If that is your assigned stop, you can go to either Oak Drive mailbox or Stollsteimers mailbox. Times are listed below.

"On other routes, families should anticipate delays and allow extra time. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as our transportation team navigates changing road conditions and works to get students to school safely. And if your family has been displaced and needs temporary or longer-term transportation arrangements, please contact us at 970-264-0392 ext 9600," the announcement states.
It adds, "We want to thank everyone in local emergency services who has been working so hard throughout this historic flooding. Thanks to their efforts, on Thursday we will be able to support our school community in returning to familiar routines, supportive relationships, safe environments, and a sense of normalcy. We know that our community will need a long time to fully recover. Please continue to prioritize your family's safety, and know that we will approach the days ahead with flexibility, compassion, and a commitment to supporting our entire school community."
