‘A Tribute to The Beatles’ fundraising concert set for April 27

Nineteen Pagosa Springs musicians will be combining their talents on Saturday, April 27, to pay tribute to the most popular rock ‘n’ roll band of the 20th century: The Beatles.

The event — billed as “A Musical Dress-up Dance Party Fundraising Event” — will benefit Pagosa Peak Open School (PPOS), our community’s district-authorized K-8 charter school.

The dance-concert — “A Tribute to The Beatles” — will feature interpretations of the Fab Four’s extensive song catalog, arranged by some of Pagosa’s finest vocalists and instrumentalists, including Kirsten Andrews, Laurie Brinkmann, Trey Brooks, Jason Dockter, Chris Haas, Steve Hays, Josh Harper, Bill Hudson, Ursala Hudson, James Kiker, Taryn Jones, Andy Matlock, Chris Morley, Greg Millioto, Gus Palma, Marcus Rivas, Em Tholberg, Bill Trimarco and Eric Wade.  The musicians have been rehearsing for the past month, working up harmonies and arrangements for 24 classic Beatles hits.

The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts will be hosting a cash bar, and prizes will be given for costumes that best celebrate The Beatles, their music and the global youth culture they influenced.  The event will also feature a Beatles-themed photo booth, and you’re invited to bring your phone and snap a picture with your friends.

So, pull out your favorite ‘60s or ‘70s Beatlemania dance-party outfit and get ready to “Twist and Shout”  with a “Little Help from Your Friends.”

This event continues the musical celebrations hosted by PPOS over the past several years, beginning with the highly popular “Blues Box Prohibition Night” jazz night held at the CSU Extension building. In 2022, PPOS hosted the “Golden Age of Hollywood” at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts and the “Viva Pagosa Springs” casino night last October — two more community-supported fundraising events that have helped fund the innovative educational program at our public K-8 charter school.

Tickets are $40 each or $75 for a couple. Purchase tickets in advance at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts website (with a service fee added).

In support of the event, PPOS will be hosting a “Parents’ Night Out” children’s event from 6 to 10 p.m. on April 27. Parents can drop off kids age 5-12 years for dinner, crafts, science and movies at PPOS. The cost is $25 for the first child and $20 for each additional child. Contact PPOS at hello@ppos.co or call (970) 317-2151 for information about “Parents Night Out.”

Note: Parents can enjoy a $5 discount per child if you buy a ticket to the “Tribute to the Beatles.”

PPOS is a tuition-free public school that provides a project-based learning environment “designed to foster a joy of learning, confidence, and academic excellence through multi-age collaborations, and original and meaningful work.”

The school’s mission is “Developing brave and experienced lifelong learners who contribute to our evolving world.”
