From family and friends to nature and pop culture, it’s clear that the readers of the The SUN and PREVIEW have a lot to be thankful for.
The SUN asked its Facebook readers to answer the simple question, “What are you thankful for?” The answers we received were not near as simple.
Some answers made us smile. Others made us laugh. Others made us nod in agreement. Some brought tears to our eyes. All of them made us proud to have you as readers.
Following are some of our favorite answers and those that most represented what you, our readers, had to say.
“I am thankful for my family, my job and my friends,” Yvonne Shunkweiler Boyd wrote.
“The Raiders beat the Chiefs,” Lucas Martinez touted.
“I’m thankful that my son’s life was spared in a life-threatening accident; I’m thankful to be from Colorado; thankful for the end of prohibition and an era of ignorance; I am thankful for my job, my family, my friends and my pets!” wrote Veronica Gallegos.
Nathan Keyawa wrote, “I’m thankful for Pagosa Springs High School teacher Sean Downing,” to which Megan Rafferty agreed, stating, “Sean Downing is the best.”
“Not one day goes by that I don’t thank the lord above for all the wonderful and kind people in my life that have always been there for myself and others. I’m so thankful I traveled to the beautiful and friendly town of Pagosa Springs and met the love of my life here. I wake up every morning thankful for that, along with my eyesight and to call this place home. Thankfulness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Thankfulness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love in your heart faith in the lord and gratitude for all you have. For this I am truly thankful,” Gail Diane Anuskewicz wrote.
Katelyn Kelly wrote, “I am thankful for the things we see everyday that some people that live in pagosa take advantage of everyday. For example, the mountains, the snow, the river, the sky; every little thing in this world is beautiful and unique and is definitely worth being thankful for!”
Dan Pickett stated he’s thankful for “The birds and squirrels that greet me every morning wanting their food.”
“I am thankful for my family and that I was raised in Pagosa by the most caring and loving mom Lucy Gonzales and sister Esmeralda Berrich. Love all my family,” DawnMarie Olson wrote.
“I am thankful for opportunity. Opportunity takes many forms for all of us, but it can bring about learning experiences and chances of a lifetime,” Monica Wamsley answered.
Michelle Soniat Janowsky stated, “I am thankful for the chance to pursue my dream career and so very thankful I am almost done with school!”
Maria Gallegos answered, “I am thankful for everyday I wake up, it is a new chance and a new beginning. I am thankful for my health and my loved ones health. I am thankful that I was given the opportunity to have a new house built for me this year by a man that surprises me everyday with his wisdom and strength ... my Dad. Last but most defiantly not least, I am so very thankful for my loving family ... without them I would be lost and could never be where I am today.”
“I am thankful for our grandchildren! Each is special. Each is very different and gives us hope for the future. Knowing each means we enjoy a blessed life,” Janet Valdez wrote.
Gina Corbin wrote, “I am thankful I live in Tucson Arizona, where I don’t have to shovel snow out from around my car to go to work.”
Deb Phillips Archuleta explained, “I am thankful for Daddy, who has had both legs amputated and 46 operations. But he is always a pleasure to be around and continuously reminds me to be thankful to God for another beautiful day and I am also thankful for my new husband our family and friends along with loyal customers I have who are now family!”

Brenda Decker told us, “I’m thankful for a roof over my head, God in my heart, food in my tummy and all my family, friends and animals around me. Happy Thanksgiving to all.”
“I am thankful for joy and hope. While happiness can be temporary and affected by circumstances, joy is never affected because it is not driven by circumstance. “I am thankful for my baby girl that I’ll be having at the end of March and my family,” Courtney Alicia Bishop wrote.
