End of Life Education is winding down for the spring, but making plans for September.
On Thursday, May 21, we are having a speaker who we’ve had in the past, but because new techniques are being developed in the area of natural funerals, she has a lot to share.
It will be at 1 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis Street. Enter from the parking lot.
Last year, Karis Meskimen presented the new ideas of green burials, natural burials, human composting and water cremation.
Many of the newest ideas were developed in other states and then were first presented in Denver and/or suburbs.
Meskimen did a great job of sharing new methods of handling bodies that are much better for the environment and more useful than past methods. I know that when she spoke last year many people were interested in learning more, especially about water cremation.
We hope to see you at these events for an important learning experience and something that you will find to be most helpful.
We almost always realize that we are more capable and stronger than we ever thought we were. We will be learning a great deal at each of these programs and will become better, stronger and more complete people.
A recent talk by an assistant coroner, Danny Gonzalas, was one of the best we’ve had. He indicated he feels that there is so much on this topic that needs better education. He has been at many homes doing his job and has seen what relatives and friends are doing at such a difficult time to handle what all needs to be done.
In the fall we are going to come up with a system for the entire county to use so that people can do a better job for their loved one. We will start End of Life programs with Gonzalas’ help at the end of September and have the most productive time we’ve had.
I hope to see many people who want the same quality for the end of their lives as they have lived their entire lives.
We did not have the number of people I hoped for at the presentation for studying the Colorado end-of-life options. If you have questions, please call (303) 995-2888 and leave a message with your name, phone number and questions. Someone will contact you to help.
