Ballots set for June primary election

Posted

The ballots for the state’s June 30 primary election have been certified, and county clerks can begin sending mail ballots to active voters on June 8.

Unaffiliated voters, as well as voters affiliated with the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Unity Parties of Colorado, will have the opportunity to vote in the June primary.

Coloradans who are registered to vote and are affiliated with the Colorado Democratic Party, Colorado Republican Party, Libertarian Party of Colorado or Unity Party of Colorado by June 8 will receive only the ballot of the party with which they are affiliated.

Unaffiliated voters will be sent a ballot for both the Democratic and Republican Party primary election. They may also contact the County Clerk to request a Unity Party ballot.

Unaffiliated voters may only vote one ballot.

According to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, the Libertarian Party of Colorado has prohibited Unaffiliated voters from voting in the Party’s Primary Election pursuant to C.R.S. 1-4-1304(1.5)(c).

What’s on the ballots?

According to the county’s notice for the primary election, the election will be for the purpose of nominating candidates for the following local offices: Archuleta County commissioner for District 3, Archuleta County clerk and recorder, Archuleta County treasurer, Archuleta County assessor, Archuleta County sheriff, Archuleta County surveyor and Archuleta County coroner.

Archuleta County Clerk and Recorder Kristy Archuleta notes in an email to The SUN there is no candidate for surveyor at this time, but the current surveyor, Ron Sutcliffe, will appear on the general election ballot as a write-in candidate.

The ballots will also feature a number of state-level and federal-level positions.

Ballots for the Libertarian Party of Colorado and the Unity Party of Colorado’s primaries will contain only one contest each, according to the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office and Archuleta.

The Libertarian Party of Colorado has nominated two candidates for secretary of state; the Unity Party of Colorado has nominated two candidates for governor.

Voter information

Eligible Coloradans can register to vote and update their voter registration at GoVoteColorado.gov through June 22 in order to receive a ballot in the mail. After June 22, Coloradans can still register and vote in person at a voting center until 7 p.m. on Election Day.

“For this year’s elections, we have partnered with the Town of Pagosa Springs to have our second Voter Service and Polling Center (VSPC) at the Ross Aragon Community Center,” Archuleta wrote.

That polling center will be open on election day only, she notes. There will not be a VPSC at the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association location this year since the election’s office is now uptown.
