Natalie Woodruff has thrown her hat in the ring for a second term as Archuleta County assessor for the 2014 election.

Woodruff recently announced her candidacy for the position and, according to the Secretary of State’s website, is the only candidate for the position.

When asked by SUN staff why she chose to run again, Woodruff responded, “Because I love my job and I work with a great group of people and I have enjoyed my last four years as assessor.”

Woodruff said she feels she has accomplished several things in her first term: bringing a cohesiveness to the assessor’s office; being efficient and fair; worked to institute an open-door policy; and improved the lines of communication with the public.

If elected for a second term, Woodruff said she hopes to coordinate a partnership with several area entities to do a Pictometry flyover that would then be available to emergency responders, the assessor’s office and others.

Pictometry is aerial photography captured by low-flying planes from several angles that provides images of the sides of buildings, as well as above.

Woodruff said that, in the assessor’s office, the images could be used for appraisal purposes.

Due to the cost, she added, the imaging is a long-term goal.
