This year Wolf Creek Ski Area (WCSA) is celebrating its 75th anniversary. The story begins in 1938.
Skiing had begun to take hold across the country. Mail was being delivered on skis in some communities. The United States would soon enter World War II and reactivate the fabled 10th Mountain Division.
And an industrious group from the San Luis Valley began coming to Wolf Creek to ski.
The San Luis Valley Ski Association (SLVSA) officially formed in 1940. Membership fees helped establish the first rope tow, powered by a truck engine, as well as a warming cabin.
