Forest Service planning pile burns

Posted

The Pagosa Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest plans to burn piles Feb. 17 and 18 (Tuesday and Wednesday) if sufficient rain or snow falls.

We will evaluate weather conditions in the hours before a burn begins. If conditions warrant, scheduled prescribed fire activities may be canceled.

This will include some or all of the following units:

• Feb. 17: Lower Turkey piles: Forest Road 628 (Snow Ranch Road), 12 acres.
• Feb. 17: Buckles Lake Road piles: Adjacent to U.S. 84 and FSR 663, 30 acres.
• Feb. 18: Kenny Flat piles: Adjacent to U.S. 84 and FSR 006, 128 acres.

• Feb. 18: Valle Seco piles: Adjacent to U.S. 84 and FSR 653.26, 26 acres.

Smoke will be visible from the U.S. 160 and the U.S. 84 corridor. All operations will occur between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. for any day we are burning.
